The Bottom Line - our take on changing times and Lead Free

Providing products to assist in protecting the health and safety of consumers continues to be a focus of Watts Water Technologies, Inc. We believe that our products, when used in their intended applications, achieve superior performance while providing essential safety. This includes products used for applications that come into contact with water intended for drinking or cooking.
California and Vermont have passed new laws that require a significant reduction in the lead content of piping, fixtures, fittings and valves that convey water used for drinking or cooking. These laws require that the wetted surfaces of such products have a weighted average lead content of equal to or less than one quarter of one percent (0.25%). We are committed to providing products that comply with these new laws. The California law refers to products that meet the new lead content standard as “lead free” and we have adopted this same terminology for our products.
For over a decade we have invested resources in the research and development of Lead Free products and manufacturing methods. In 2004, we passed an important milestone with the introduction of Lead Free water pressure reducing valves as well as backflow preventers. Since then our Lead Free product offering has grown and will continue to grow.
While we support the Lead Free plumbing movements undertaken by some states, we feel it is important to state that our standard products meet or exceed all other state and federal requirements with respect to lead content and we believe they are safe to use in their intended applications. Where Lead Free requirements have not been enacted, we will offer a choice between our standard and Lead Free products.
We are committed to continually improving the quality of drinking water and working with local, state and federal authorities to ensure our products meet and exceed all applicable regulations.
