Class in Session. Manufacturers Educate on Lead
Tuesday, February 24, 2009
Let's start with a quick pop-quiz! Put your books and BlackBerrys away. Remember, no Googling for answers and no partial credit! OK, are you ready? Here we go. Which of the following statements is "True"?
- Seedless grapes contain seeds. (talk about grapes of wrath)
- Decaffeinated coffee is laced with caffeine. (is that the buzz?)
- Fat-Free mayonnaise includes some fat. (fat chance!)
- Lead-Free brass harbors traces of lead. (no weigh!)
- All of the above. (who tipped you off?)
Wow, we're impressed, and with no time to study. All right, we did give you a little help but that's what we’re here for, and more help is on the way.
Consider plumbing manufacturers, driven by the close proximity of lead law enforcement in California and Vermont, are assisting customers and constituents with more information on the impending legislation. When deadlines loom, those impacted start paying more attention to details, ask more in-depth questions, and require greater clarity.
Now back to our quiz. Even though Lead-Free brass isn't completely void of lead, it's pretty darn close. Remember, CA and VT demands lead content for fittings in contact with water for human consumption contain a weighted average (of wetted surfaces) of no more 0.25% - that's a quarter of one percent!
Inquiring minds may have other questions like how do the new laws differ from legislation currently on the books? Consider NSF 61, Safe Drinking Water Act and The Lead and Copper Rule. Check out the attached article for greater clarity.
