ASSE Joins UL, NSF, Others with Lead Certification Program

Monday, January 18, 2010

The American Society of Sanitary Engineering (ASSE) has added its name to the list of certifying bodies for the new low lead requirements in California and Vermont. The ASSE Lead Content Certification Program allows manufacturers applying for new ASSE listings, as well as manufacturers with existing ASSE listings to demonstrate their compliance to new regulations. The program allows manufacturers to test based on protocols set forth by the California Department of Toxic Substances Control.

Manufacturers applying for a new listing must also ensure that an ASSE listed testing facility file a test report for the appropriate product performance standard, as listed in the Seal Control Board Procedures, and must also complete an application (see link below). Manufacturers applying for certification for an existing ASSE listing must submit a modification request to the Product Listing Coordinator, and must instruct an ASSE testing lab to submit the ASSE lead content calculation report to ASSE's international office.
